Successful separation of triglycerides, diglycerides, free fatty acids, carotenes, tocopherol, and tocotrienols from crude palm oil has been achieved by supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) with a combination of a C18 and a silica gel column. The separation was carried out by the programmed extraction elution method. Free fatty acids were separated into five components by gas-liquid chromatography; tocopherol and tocotrienols were also separated into four components by SFC analysis, and the pure fractionated carotenes were obtained by preparative SFC. Thus, by using supercritical fluid chromatography, crude palm oil components can be separated and fractionated, based on differences in their functional groups.  相似文献

Transesterification of oils/triglycerides (TGs) with alcohol in the presence of catalyst has been the most commonly used process to produce biodiesel. Major limiting factors of conventional biodiesel transesterification process are phase separation and product purification. Precise and correct knowledge of the phase equilibrium behaviour is crucial for future industrial biodiesel reaction, separation and purification processes. For this purpose, it is important to consider the phase equilibrium behaviour in order to thoroughly understand the entire transesterification system for biodiesel production, which consists of six components. This work is to discuss on the liquid–liquid equilibrium (LLE) data of six-component system which involves TG, palm biodiesel (FAME), methanol (MeOH), glycerine (GLY), diglyceride (DG) and monoglyceride (MG). The phase equilibrium data of this system were determined experimentally through transesterification of crude palm oil (CPO). The experimental LLE data have been transposed into a pseudo-ternary diagram as TG–DG–MG + MeOH–GLY + FAME for better visualisation and understanding of the six-component system. Results showed that the transesterification of TG to FAME has formed a two-phase system where CPO-rich phase and MeOH-rich phase co-existed during the reaction. Due to immiscibility of CPO and MeOH, as well as the miscibility of FAME and MeOH, the LLE data suggested that at specific reaction operating condition, the reacted product (FAME) could be continuously removed by separating the MeOH phase from the CPO phase. This favours the forward transesterification reaction and eventually enhances the reaction efficiency to produce an oil-free FAME.  相似文献

Multicomputer systems achieve high performance by utilizing a number of computing nodes. Recently, by achieving significant reductions in communication delay, the three-dimensional (3D) torus has emerged as a new candidate interconnection topology for message-passing multicomputer systems. In this paper, we propose an efficient processor allocation scheme-scan search scheme-for the 3D torus based on a first-fit approach. The scan search scheme minimizes the average allocation time for an incoming task by effectively manipulating the 3D information on a torus as 2D information using a data structure called the CST (Coverage Status Table). Comprehensive computer simulation reveals that the allocation time of the scan search scheme is always smaller than that of the earlier scheme based on a best-fit approach. The difference gets larger as the input load increases, and it is as much a factor of 3 for high load. To investigate the performance of the proposed scheme in different scheduling environments, we also consider a non-FCFS scheduling policy along with the typical FCFS policy. The allocation time complexity of the scan search scheme is O(LW2H2). This is significantly smaller than that of the existing scheme which is O(L4W4H4). This paper presents an experimental study that investigates the validity of the analytical model [9] for predicting the mean effective strains associated with bar (or rod) rolling. Designed for this purpose were plate and bar rolling experiments which consist of a four-pass groove (oval and round) rolling sequences, which have material at each pass that experience the same amount of mean effective strain. The microstructure and mechanical behaviors of specimens acquired from two types of rolling experiments at 650°C were compared. A parallelism between the mechanical behaviors of a plate-rolled specimen and a bar-rolled specimen has been found at each pass. We therefore concluded that the analytical model has the underlying rationale to be used in the analysis of the rod (or bar) rolling process.  相似文献

We report on the use of a genetic algorithm (GA) in the design optimization of electrically small wire antennas, taking into account of bandwidth, efficiency and antenna size. For the antenna configuration, we employ a multisegment wire structure. The Numerical Electromagnetics Code (NEC) is used to predict the performance of each wire structure. To efficiently map out this multiobjective problem, we implement a Pareto GA with the concept of divided range optimization. In our GA implementation, each wire shape is encoded into a binary chromosome. A two-point crossover scheme involving three chromosomes and a geometrical filter are implemented to achieve efficient optimization. An optimal set of designs, trading off bandwidth, efficiency, and antenna size, is generated. Several GA designs are built, measured and compared to the simulation. Physical interpretations of the GA-optimized structures are provided and the results are compared against the well-known fundamental limit for small antennas. Further improvements using other geometrical design freedoms are discussed.  相似文献

The addition of the chelating polymer polyacrylic acid (PAA) to assist in the removal of manganese from groundwater by membranes was investigated using membranes with different pore sizes under various operating conditions. Negligible manganese removal was achieved with the UF and NF membranes at acidic pH values, but removals exceeding 90% could be achieved at elevated pH (pH 9), presumably due to the formation of manganese hydroxides. Mn removal increased substantially when PAA was added to the feed solution, due to chelation of Mn by the PAA and rejection of the chelates by the membranes. The chelate could be broken at acidic pH, releasing free PAA that could then be separated from the Mn ions and reused. Smaller PAA molecules were lost in the first regeneration cycle, but negligible PAA was lost in subsequent cycles. In the systems with PAA, nitrate ions were rejected more efficiently than in the PAA-free systems, presumably because of electrical repulsion between nitrate ions and PAA sorbed on the membrane surface. With increasing PAA dose, the volumetric flux first decreased and then increased; the latter result was accompanied by a change in the physical-chemical form of the polymers, as indicated by an increase in turbidity.  相似文献

Summary A polymer having fluorescent pyridylbenzoxazole groups has been prepared for the purpose of detecting of metal ions. Metal ions such as Co2+, Ni2+, Cu2+ and Fe2+ were found to coordinate with the bipyridyl-like fluorescent benzoxazole chromophores. Among the metal ions investigated, the Fe2+ ion was shown to be the most effective in terms of its fluorescence quenching ability. The addition of a metal scavenger 2,2'-dipyridyl to the metal ion-quenched polymer solution resulted in the recovery of the fluorescence. The development of a safe and efficient method for hydrogen storage is essential for the use of hydrogen with fuel cells for vehicular applications. Hollow glass microspheres (HGMs) have characteristics suitable for hydrogen storage and are expected to be a potential hydrogen carrier to be used for energy release applications. The HGMs with 10–100 μm diameters, 100–1000 Å pore width and 3–8 μm wall thicknesses are expected to be useful for hydrogen storage. In our research we have prepared HGMs from amber glass powder of particle size 63–75 μm using flame spheroidisation method. The HGMs samples with magnesium and iron loading were also prepared to improve the heat transfer property and thereby increase the hydrogen storage capacity of the product. The feed glass powder was impregnated with calculated amount of magnesium nitrate hexahydrate salt solution to get 0.2–3.0 wt% Mg loading on HGMs. Required amount of ferrous chloride tetrahydrate solution was mixed thoroughly with the glass feed powder to prepare 0.2–2 wt% Fe loaded HGMs. Characterizations of all the HGMs samples were done using FEG-SEM, ESEM and FTIR techniques. Adsorption of hydrogen on all the Fe and Mg loaded HGMs at 10 bar pressure was conducted at room temperature and at 200 °C, for 5 h. The hydrogen adsorption capacity of Fe loaded sample was about 0.56 and 0.21 weight percent for Fe loading 0.5 and 2.0 weight percentage respectively. The magnesium loaded samples showed an increase of hydrogen adsorption from 1.23 to 2.0 weight percentage when the magnesium loading percentage was increased from 0 to 2.0. When the magnesium loading on HGMs was increased beyond 2%, formation of nano-crystals of MgO and Mg was seen on the HGMs leading to pore closure and thereby reduction in hydrogen storage capacity.  相似文献
